The Kingdoms of Kalamar is a vast land, with much more cultures, kingdoms and countries than the name of the setting implies.  Here you can explore the pieces of the world that I have developed (sometimes very much, other times only slightly).

Brief History of Tellene

Humans started springing up on the isle of Svimohzia, far to the south. This "Cradle of Civilization" lived in peace and plentiful bounty for a long time. Then, some strange maladies began decimating the grazing herds of game that they hunted. A several clans of desperate Svimohzian's struck out northeast, across a five mile or so wide land bridge. Eventually, they reached the lands of the Alubelok Swamp, where they found flocks of waterfowl and other game. Soon they were back to their nomadic hunter/gatherer ways in this bountiful land.

Tellene wasn't home to just humans; Dwarves, Gnomes, Halflings, Elves and Hobgoblins (as well as other goblinoid races like Orcs, Kobolds, Giants and more) also call Tellene home. Of all the goblinoids, Hobgoblins are the most 'civilized' (by human standards) and have their own kingdoms called Ur-Karg and Norga-Krangrel.  Humans have developed with the other races over the centuries, although wars and battles are constantly being waged (especially in the southern regions).

Now, humans have expanded all across these lands. Demi-humans have likewise left their typical surroundings, and you can find groups of sea-faring dwarves and cave-dwelling elves. Humans are the prominent race, having a world population of around 26 million.

Climate and General Topography

The climate of Tellene is blessed with comfort. Warm temperatures are the norm, with only the far north getting snow and cold winters. The south is sub-tropical to tropical around the Svimohzia parallel

The lands can be divided into roughly six areas; Brandobia on the west; Kalamar and The Young Kingdoms in the middle; The Wild Lands and Reanaaria Bay to the east; and finally, Svimohzia to the south.  Kalamar is cut off from Brandobia by a tall range of rugged mountains and The Young Kingdoms are cut away from The Wild Lands and Reanaaria by another range of tall mountains. Svimohzia is an island unto itself, separated from the mainland by what is called the Straights of Svimohzia.

There are three moons orbiting Tellene. Diadolai ("The Elven Moon"), Pelselond ("Big Star"), and Veshemo ("Mother Above"). Of these, Diadolai is the smallest and reddish-pink in color. It is on an 80-day cycle; most of which it can't even bee seen. The Elves believe that Diadolai is the home of the gods. Pelselond is only slightly larger than Diadolai and has a cycle of 34-days with a white/white-yellow glow. Pelselond is in an elliptical orbit, so moves at varying speeds in the sky. Lastly, Veshemo is the largest moon. It is therefore the brightest (but not by much), giving off a pale yellow color. It is Veshemo that the Tellene calendar is based on. The cycle is 28-days, with every 14th day it being a Full Moon.

Calendar

The Tellene year is 364 days in length, and consists of 13 28-day months, each of which has four 7-day weeks. It was developed by the ancient Svimohzian's, and so is used by every human civilization known.  The 28-days is based upon Veshemo's cycle.
